Food Pantry
The Covenant House Food Pantry, housed at First Presbyterian Church, is staffed by a manager and a team of volunteers from local congregations. Open weekday mornings Monday through Friday, the Pantry provides food orders for Kanawha County individuals and families who have been referred by Covenant House Drop In Center staff.
Food orders vary depending on what donations have stocked the shelves, but generally reflect a balanced and nutritional diet made up of a variety of non-perishable food. Items are acquired through cash donations, government programs, and many local drives throughout the year, with civic and religious communities being particularly responsive. As a result, thousands of people are been served through this pantry each year (4,635 in 2008).
Those in need of food must visit the Drop In Center to get the required referral and then may proceed to the Food Pantry.

Canstruction - A Food Pantry BenefitCovenant House and the American Institute of Architects-West Virginia have teamed since 2007 to bring an annual Canstruction Competition to Charleston. Click here to check out The Gazz's short video about this year's competition. Canstruction is a trademarked charity event of the design and construction industry produced under the auspices of the Society of Design Administration (SDA). The event teams architects, engineers and contractors to design and construct sculptures using canned foods. All canned goods used in building go to the Covenant House Food Pantry. |

Generally held at the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences during the winter months, Charleston's Canstruction event is open free to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own donations of food items to help fill Covenant House Food Pantry shelves. |
