Covenant House is seeking Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) artists, and artists who support the LGBT community, to create artwork with an anti-tobacco theme for a juried art exhibit scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Joe Zando's Catering Unlimited located at 241 Capitol Street in downtown Charleston.
Art of any kind is eligible for the exhibit - paintings, graphic art, sculpture, photography, video art, etc. Covenant House will provide the gallery space for the exhibition of your work and will also provide technical installation assistance.
Covenant House has chosen an anti-tobacco theme because of the high rates of smoking that exists in the LGBT community. This art opening will be the kick-off event for our year-long campaign to encourage members of the LGBT community to stop smoking and to adopt a clean indoor air policy.
A limited number of stipends are available to artists to help defray some of the costs associated with participating in this event. To be considered for a stipend, please include a short paragraph describing your work and what you hope to create.
Covenant House, in collaboration with its partners, will advertise the art exhibit opening, provide publicity, and sponsor the opening night reception. We do not provide insurance for work exhibited at the show. Additionally, Covenant House reserves the right to show the art at other venues throughout West Virginia. At the end of the campaign, all art will be available for pick-up at Covenant House.
